And not just a little time, but the kind of time you don’t get back. The kind where the bite window closes or the moment just passes. I’ve had more of those moments than I care to admit, especially when I’m traveling between fishing destinations and trying to keep everything straight.

Over time, I’ve realized something simple but important: The easier it is to access your gear, the more you actually enjoy being outside.

I had a chance to use the product and travel with it in real scenarios during a pre-launch media preview and it ticked all the boxes for me. Here’s a review of what I discovered, and why I this product gets a permanent place in my arsenal of go-to gear.

Gear Stress Is Real

We don’t usually think about organization as part of the outdoor experience, but it absolutely is.

Plano did a survey of outdoor enthusiasts, and the results are not surprising.

The part that really sticks with me is that two out of three people say clutter adds stress to time that’s supposed to be relaxing. That’s exactly it. We plan these trips to unwind, but we start them frustrated while digging, searching and repacking.

What I’ve Started Doing Differently

Over the years, I’ve shifted away from the “throw everything in one place” approach to storage. Instead, I organize based on how I actually fish. That means grouping gear by technique, location, or even the type of trip I’m planning.

It sounds simple, but it’s made a noticeable difference in how quickly I can get out the door and how focused I feel once I’m on the water.

During the pre-launch of the Plano GoNow™ box, I had a chance to use both sizes of available boxes. What stands out most to me is how practical they are once you’re actually outside. They come in small (20.0” L X 15.6″ W X 12.3” H) and large (31.8″ L X 19.7” W X 12.5” H) versions. The smaller one is great for more technique-specific setups and the larger is ideal for people who need to carry bulkier gear or pack for longer trips.

The boxes can be purchased and accessories added for customization. There are also sets available outfitted for freshwater anglers, saltwater anglers, hunters and campers.

What I appreciate is how easy they are to use in the moment. I can open them quickly without fumbling around, which matters more than you’d think when you’re mid-fishing and don’t want to break the rhythm. The interior can be adjusted depending on what I’m carrying, so I’m not stuck with one layout. I’ve reorganized mine a few times already and can quickly switch it up based on where I’m going and what I need.

The boxes also handle travel well. Whether they’re in the back of my car, on a boat deck or riding the conveyer belt through airport security, they are secure and durable. When space is tight the boxes are designed to stack which is nice when you move them from in-use to storage. Everything in its design feels intentional which is why Plano spent nearly four years developing this product.

Final Thoughts

At the end of the day, this isn’t really about a storage box. It’s about removing friction.

Anything that slows you down like packing, searching, second-guessing takes away from why you went outside in the first place.
